Total Annihilation: Kingdoms is set on the medieval world of Darien, a mystic world previously ruled by the Kandrian, a civilization with incredible mastery of magic, but that quickly came to its downfall due to internal power struggles. This mode of the game also enables scripting (mission-type games in multiplayer) to be played. Up to 8 players can play together at a time either on teams or against one another. TAK can be played online through Game Ranger. While this is certainly an old game, the graphics have a certain style which old school gamers will appreciate. A strong modding scene with over 20 years worth of content is also waiting for players to explore, expanding the potential for Total Annihilation to near limitless levels.
Resource generation and unit production have an uncommon amount of automation, the story has a surprising depth and the included expansions bring even more. The space setting and unit system make for a uniquely engaging game which has a number of advantages over similar titles. Released amongst other classic RTS games like Red Alert and Command and Conquer in the mid 90's, Total Annihilation is something of a forgotten gem.
